The Blood Bank of the Hospital Universitario San Vicente de Paul was founded on April 5th, 1949, being the first in Antioquia and one of the first in the country. It is a Blood Bank that is rated Category A, which allows it to process the received blood into the conforming components.

During this period of time it is has been characterized for being one of the Blood Banks with more donors nationwide. In past years, it was the one that received more donors in the Department of Antioquia.
