The history of the Hospital Universitario
San Vicente de Paul dates back to 1912 when a group of
philanthropists from Antioquia came up with the idea of
building a hospital. At that time, there was only one
hospital in the city of Medellin, San Juan de Dios Hospital,
but its conditions were pitiful: the premises were small,
the furniture was completely deteriorated, the surgical
and scientific instruments were incomplete and deficient,
and there weren’t enough beds. The patients had
to lie around on sidewalks for days, waiting for their
turn to occupy a bed. |
